Craig Brown, a critic and satirist, said the Duchess of Sussex’s association with US President Donald Trump’s daughter was not mentioned to protect her “mission”.
On her now-defunct blog The Tig, Meghan wrote about Ivanka Trump in 2014, calling her “staggeringly beautiful” and “intelligent”.
And in his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Andrew Morton revealed Meghan “was thrilled when Ivanka agreed to fill in her simple questionnaire for Tig Talk”.
He added: “More thrilled when she accepted her invitation to meet for drinks and dinner the next time Meghan was in New York.”

Writing on The Tig , the former Suits actress gushed: “When we have drinks, I will make sure I order whatever she does – because this woman seems to have the formula for success (and happiness) down pat.”
But no mention was made of their acquaintance in new unofficial biography Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, with Brown claiming this was a deliberate move.
Writing for the Mail on Sunday, he said: “The authors of Finding Freedom conveniently airbrush Ivanka from the record, perhaps fearful that the Trump formula for success and happiness might jar against Harry and Meghan’s new mission to build a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.”
Relations between the women are said to have soured when Meghan criticised Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election, and he later called her “nasty”.
The Duchess accused him of being “misogynistic” and “divisive” during the campaign. She also pledged to vote for his rival Hillary Clinton.

Told of Meghan’s barbs by The Sun , Mr Trump insisted it was the first time he’d heard them. He said: “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, have insisted they had nothing to do with Finding Freedom, and
Scobie, who has close ties to Meghan, also said he had not spoken to them directly. However, the book does contain intimate information on the early stages of their romance.
And the author’s note appears to acknowledge that the writers worked with the couple on the biography, reading: “We have spoken with close friends of Harry and Meghan, royal aides and palace staff (past and present), the charities and organisations they have built long-lasting relationships with and, when appropriate, the couple themselves.”
